Description
Learn about earthquakes and volcanoes, how rocks form, life in Earth’s past, and other earth-science topics. Students will grow their own crystals and make their own ‘fossils,’ among other hands-on activities. As much as possible, topics will be introduced and knowledge learned through observational and hands-on activities.
Lessons will include grade-appropriate introductions to basic chemistry concepts in context of learning about how rocks, minerals, and crystals form and how volcanoes work. Observational skills will be used and will serve as an introduction to further scientific inquiry and science writing, with new vocabulary words introduced to describe students’ observations in context.
