The Boy Scouts of America’s merit badge program provides opportunities for youth to explore more than a hundred fields of skill and knowledge, plays a key role in the fulfillment of Scouting’s educational commitment.
The NOVA Awards program incorporates learning with cool activities, exposure to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics for Scouts of all ages. The hope is that the requirements and activities for earning these awards stimulate interest in STEM-related fields and shows how science, technology, engineering, and mathematics apply to everyday living and the world around them.

  • When? ​​ Saturday, November 12, 2022 from 9:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.​​
    (Plan to arrive by 8:45 a.m.)
  • Where? ​​ Sign-in and assembly will be in Toomey Hall Room 199/Auditorium, on the Missouri University of Science and Technology campus. Parking details will be forwarded to registered Scouts.
  • Cost? $25.00 per Scout if registered by November 2022.

The following merit badge and NOVA track will be offered Saturday, November 12, 2022:

  1. Energy – NOVA Segment: Splash
    Energy Prerequisites: Please complete requirement 1a, 4a (requires 14 day charting), 5a, 6a-e, and be prepared to discuss with your counselor.
    NOVA – Splash Prerequisites: Please complete requirement 1 a or b or c and be prepared to discuss with your counselor.
  2. Robotics – NOVA Segment: Hello World
    Robotics Prerequisites: Please complete requirement 1a and b. Be prepared to discuss with your counselor.
    NOVA – Hello World Prerequisites: Please complete requirement 1 a or b or c and be prepared to discuss with your counselor.
  3. Digital Technology – NOVA Segment: The Next Best Thing
    Digital Technology Prerequisites: Cyber Chip must be earned before attending this session. Please complete requirement 2a and b, 5b, 6b, 6c, 6e, 7c, and be prepared to discuss with your counselor.
    NOVA – The Next Best Thing Prerequisites: Please complete requirement 1 a or b or c and be prepared to discuss with your counselor.
  4. Chess – NOVA Segment: Designed to Crunch

Notes for Leaders and Parents:

  • Parents and Leaders are VERY welcome to join the sessions with their Scouts. Two-deep leadership is provided during this time, however, additional adults are always welcome.
  • Scouts and Scouters should be in uniform and abide by the Scout Oath and Law.
  • Leaders are required on a ratio of one per five youth to help out in the classes, transit areas, and with transportation. If you have less than five youth, one adult is expected to stay.
  • Adults will be assigned specific duties. Every attempt will be made to keep adults with their units. Adults MUST participate as monitors, or in any other needed function, so that this will be successful for our youth.
  • When you send in your registration, please let us know who is driving as well as the type and capacity of the vehicle(s) they are driving so we can match it with transportation requirements for the youth.
  • Each Scout should bring a pencil and paper for taking notes, Merit Badge Pamphlets will NOT be available at the MBU so plan to obtain the necessary pamphlets for your scouts prior to arrival at MBU.
  • Scouts need to dress appropriately for the weather.
  • Scouts MUST have been active in the Troop for at least three months prior to the Merit Badge University.
  • Have your Scouts study the requirements ahead of time. Bring reference materials. Items completed ahead of time should be brought to MBU or certified by the Scoutmaster ahead of time. Partials will be given for work that is incomplete. If a Scout gets a partial, it is up to the Scoutmaster or Advancement Chairman to make sure the Scout finishes all the requirements properly. You will be notified by email when your registration is received, along with which merit badge your Scouts have been assigned to. having tumbled out of bed, etc. Cameras are kept on during the session for the moderator to be able to see that everyone is as engaged as possible.)
  • Each Scout should have at their disposal a means of taking notes (pencil, pen, laptop, etc.) and a copy of their completed and submitted pre-requisites.
  • Scouts need to dress appropriately for the session. Scouts do not need to be Class As, however, Class Bs are appreciated, not required.
  • You will be notified by email when your registration is received and which merit badge your Scouts have been assigned to.
