The weather may be chilly here in mid-Missouri, but things are getting heated up with the Kaleidoscope Discovery Center’s scheduling! 

Our summer schedule is now posted up and you’re able to register for classes.

This summer The KDC is offering a variety of robotics and Future City programs. Students from 1st -8th grades can fuel their curiosity and explore their passion for STEM.


Here at the Kaleidoscope Discovery Center we’re committed to our mission of serving the local mid-Missouri areas. These classes will take place in Rolla, St. James, Vienna/Belle, Salem/Huston, and Waynesville/St. Robert. We want robotics and STEM education accessible and available to the local community.


Our robotics summer 2022 programs include:

What’s a WeDo?
1st – 4th Grades

In this class, students in grades 1-4 play with WeDos. These tabletop devices introduce programming and robotics concepts in a fun and engaging way.

What’s an EV3?
4th – 8th Grades

In this class, students in grades 4-8 are introduced to EV3s. These tabletop robotics are a fun way to engage older students and ignite their passion for robotics and STEM. EV3s are a step up from WeDos and have more complex motors and sensors.

Creating with WeDos

1st – 4th Grades

The summer camp course is designed to teach beginning robotics students in grades 1 – 4 how to experiment with the application of simple machines in a robotic environment.

Intro to EV3s/Mindstorm

4th – 8th Grades

This summer course is designed to teach older beginning robotics students how to experiment with the application of simple machines in a robotic environment. Camp covers the core concepts of EV3 programming

In addition to the robotics programs above, we’re also offering Future City workshops. If you’re not familiar with Future City, it’s a national championship which has been going strong for over 30 years. In this project-based learning program, students research, design, and build cities of the future. These summer workshops are great ways for students to get their feet wet and learn more about the national Future City competition.

 

Future City Junior

1st – 4th Grades

Specially designed for rising 4th – 5th grade students interested in how cities work! Explore the importance of city design by building a model with moving parts, by virtual design using Sim City software and by area field trips. This camp is designed to give younger students an opportunity to learn  more about the national Future City Competition.

Future City

6th – 8th Grades

Specially designed for rising 6th – 8th grade students interested in how cities work! Explore the importance of city design by building a model with moving parts, by virtual design using Sim City software to address a thematic problem and by area field trips. This camp is designed to prepare competition-aged students for the national Future City competition
