... And we can't forget that plate sizes have increased. One study in particular looked at how we take psychological cues from empty space on the plate to tell us when to stop eating. In the "bottomless bowl of soup" study, subjects with soup bowls that were continually filled from the bottom continued eating because the bowl continued to look full. The larger the plate, the more we keep eating until the plate 'appears' to be empty. http://www.citytv.com/toronto/citynews/life/health/article/17477--bottomless-soup-bowl-proves-eyes-are-bigger-than-stomach

I wholeheartedly agree. I catch myself doing the same thing sometimes....picking up a 'treat' for my little ones and then realizing that I don't want to teach them that treats and rewards are all about food! I'm re-training myself because I want my children to view food for what it really is: good nutrition. Thanks for commenting!

We're also teaching our kids that celebrations require junk food - think about parties in schools. They're all about bringing in chips, soda, candy - the high sugar foods. Why aren't parties about going outside and getting a little extra recess or something similar?

Thanks, Kathleen. Sometimes as a parent you just have to go with what you think is best, science or no science!

This post gives a balanced, well researched overview of the whole Circumcision Debate. Thanks for that, and for sharing the decision you made for your own son.
My sons are teenagers now, and both were circumcised. We did the reading that was available at the time, then based our decision on the opinions of the men in our lives - not exactly the scientific method!
